About Mr Yakubu Karagama

Mr Yakubu Karagama is an internationally-renowned ENT Surgeon. He specialises in general Ear, Nose and Throat problems. Additionally, Mr Karagama has a special interest in professional voice problems, general voice disorders, swallowing disorders, airway issues, snoring, sleep apnoea, and nasal & sinus problems. 

Mr Karagama leads the laryngology service at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital, one of the UK's largest teaching hospitals in London. He is the founder and course director for the London and Manchester Phonosurgery course. Mr Karagama is keen on voice research, having obtained an MSc in Advance Voice Research at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2005. 

Mr Karagama has presented his research and won prizes at national and international conferences, including the North of England Otolaryngological Society, the Royal Society of Medicine, and the British Association Conference of Otolaryngologists (BACO). 

He has authored and co-authored over 50 publications, is a visiting Senior Lecturer at King's College, London. Mr Karagama was Secretary of the British Laryngological Association. He is also an Honorary Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester.

Mr Karagama is a leading surgeon in hypoglossal nerve stimulation implant in the treatment of sleep apnoea, and performed the first UK cases in 2022.

He has been invited as a key note speaker in several international and national conferences in the field of laryngology. Mr Karagama also supervises resident doctors and medical students.
