What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?
PCOS is a condition that effects the way that a woman’s ovaries work. It is a very common condition, affecting up to 1 in 5 women, but more than half of these women will never show symptoms.
What causes Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
The most common symptoms would include irregular or lack of menstruation (periods), issues with excess hair growth, hair thinning, acne, weight gain and fertility issues.
You may experience some or all of the symptoms and we will aim to provide you with a full diagnostic work up with blood tests and so we may also need ultrasound scans.
We aim to provide you with a tailored approach to address your symptoms and to ensure that your risk for other associated conditions (Diabetes Mellitus, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease are assessed).

Polycystic ovarian syndrome can present with an array of symptoms including disordered menstruation, hair, skin and fertility. It is also associated with the metabolic syndrome. Our specialists will perform a detailed assessment and focus on a management plan that will suit you and your needs. This could include contraception pills or specific drugs to target certain symptoms.
