About Dr Terry Wong

Dr Terry Wong is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at OneWelbeck, his clinical interests are in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, pancreaticobiliary endoscopy and hepatology.

Dr Wong has numerous papers, reviews, and letters  in prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Endoscopy.

In addition to his clinical expertise, he is also involved in training future Consultants having previously been the South East Thames Training Programme Director in Gastroenterology, and a member of the UK Gastroenterology Specialty Certification Examining Board.

Dr Wong studied medicine at Cambridge University then St. Bartholomew’s Hospital qualifying in 1990. His post graduate training was initially at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, then at Kings College Hospital and St. Thomas’ Hospital. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine by thesis in 2000, and was first appointed as a Consultant in 2001 in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he was the clinical lead in hepatobiliary endoscopy. In 2003 he started at  Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospital where he is currently the clinical lead in hepatopancreatobiliary endoscopy, clinical lead of the oesophageal laboratory, and clinical lead in hepatology. He has previously been a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology endoscopy committee, oesophageal committee, and hepatology committee.

Research Highlights

Recently completed a study on the effect of exercise in patients with Crohn’s disease. I am now planning a larger multi-centre study using different exercise modalities, specifically high-intensity exercise.

He is also involved on a daily basis with the recruitment and monitoring of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, enrolled in various clinical trials at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
