About Dr Devinder Bansi

Dr Devinder Bansi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Partner at OneWelbeck, specialising in therapeutic endoscopy, hepato-biliary and pancreatic disease and luminal gastroenterology. He is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London and an expert endoscopist with 20 years experience as a consultant, performing over 600 gastroscopies, 600 colonoscopies and 150 ERCPs each year. In 2017, he was recognised in the Top Doctor awards– a certificate of excellence awarded for recognition of skill, care and professionalism, as nominated by his medical peers across the UK.

He is also one of the leading experts in Bariatric Endoscopy in London and the UK, with particular expertise in the management of complications after bariatric surgery as well as the use of endoscopy methods to achieve weight loss. Dr Bansi has a major interest in research, particularly around gastro-intestinal cancer, therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP; he was formerly the lead for interventional endoscopy at Imperial College NHS Trust.

He is a founding member of the OneWelbeck Digestive Health Centre and member of our GI board. He is also Chair of the QAPI committee. He brings 20 years of experience working as a consultant in London to the OneWelbeck team.

Dr Bansi BM, DM, FRCP qualified from Southampton University Medical School, in 1988. After completing professional junior medical posts in the Wessex region and obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), Dr Bansi was appointed research fellow in gastroenterology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford (1993-1996). His MD thesis on Immunological Mechanisms in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis was awarded in 1996.

That same year, he returned to London as a senior specialist registrar on the North Thames East rotation and received further comprehensive training in therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP at the Middlesex Hospital. During this rotation, he also trained in oesophageal physiology at the Royal London Hospital, and then worked as the resident medical officer at Whipps Cross and Newham General Hospitals.

Dr Bansi completed his training in gastroenterology and general medicine in 1998, and then appointed consultant gastroenterologist and honorary senior lecturer in medicine to the Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of Imperial College), in 1999. He has been part of the Hammersmith Hospitals Research Committee and is an educational supervisor for training of junior doctors, as well as undergraduate medical students. He is a trained consultant mentor for junior consultant colleagues, an examiner for the undergraduate medical school and representative for the Royal College of Physicians in consultant appointment committees.

Dr Devinder Bansi partnered with OneWelbeck in 2017 to collaboratively develop the OneWelbeck Digestive Health Centre. He has applied his extensive experience to improve the patient experience.
