Overview

OneWelbeck is proud to announce the significant expansion of its Imaging and Diagnostic Centre, enhancing its capabilities to meet the growing needs of patients. Over the past five years, OneWelbeck has continuously developed its state-of-the-art facility, offering advanced MRI, CT, and pathology services.

In response to valuable feedback from our esteemed doctor partners, who highlighted the need for increased space, additional scanners, and greater availability, OneWelbeck has invested in a comprehensive extension. This expansion includes the addition of two new MRI scanners, one CT scanner, and four additional phlebotomy pods, significantly improving patient access to diagnostic services in a private, comfortable setting.

Matt Birchenough, Centre Director of OneWelbeck Imaging & Diagnostics said:  “We’ve upgraded the model of our existing CT scanner receiving remarkable feedback already. Our new volumetric 3-dimensional scanner ensures faster scanning with lower contrast and radiation doses, improving patient experience and safety. We are currently in the process of applying sequences from Doctor Peter Kellman, a physicist from the USA, to enhance our cardiac scanning efficiency and image quality. These have been known to take the scan time down by up to half.”

The radiography team has expressed enthusiastic approval for our new Siemens scanners, citing exceptional image quality and technological advancements. Consultant Radiologist, Professor Simon Padley explains that our MRI machine uses a powerful three Tesla magnet. “This machine is primarily used for body imaging, including musculoskeletal imaging, which covers joints and the spine, as well as brain imaging. Some patients may feel uncomfortable in the enclosed tunnel of the MRI machine, so we use a clever angled mirror. This allows patients lying on their backs to see their toes, helping to alleviate feelings of claustrophobia.”

Current NHS England data reveals that in January 2024, nearly one in five patients were waiting more than six weeks for their CT or MRI imaging test – equivalent to 95,797 patients - over 7,000 more patients than in December 2023. *Source- The Royal College of Radiologists.

OneWelbeck aims to alleviate these delays by providing swift access to healthcare, ensuring patients receive same-day care and treatment pathways whenever possible. This expansion enhances our ability to offer immediate imaging services, particularly for CT and MRI scans, facilitating quick, efficient, and high-quality diagnostics all as part of a multidisciplinary team approach.
