About Professor Stuart Taylor

Professor Stuart Taylor is a Professor of Medical Imaging at University College London. His NHS practice is at University College London Hospitals.

Professor Taylor specialises in imaging the abdomen and bowel, with particular expertise in imaging Crohn’s disease, diseases of the pelvis, CT colonography and cancer imaging.

Professor Stuart Taylor is a clinical academic and educator. He is currently President of the British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology and sits on the executive committee of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology. He is the local academic lead for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) academic clinical fellows and academic clinical lecturer programme and is currently chairman of the National NIHR Imaging Group. He is also a NIHR senior investigator. With colleagues, he runs the one of the leading GI imaging services at University College London Hospitals.

Personal Biography

Professor Taylor trained at St Bartholomews Hospital and qualified in 1994. He underwent specialised training in Gastrointestinal Imaging at St Marks Hospital, Harrow where he undertook an MD in CT Colonography. After a short time as a consultant at St Marks Hospital, in 2005 he moved to University College Hospital as a clinical academic and was appointed Professor of Medical Imaging in 2011.

Research Highlights

Professor Taylor is an academic clinical radiologist specialising in Gastrointestinal and Oncological Imaging (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/medical-imaging/staff/principal-investigators/professor-stuart-taylor).

He has personally attracted over £6M grant income as chief investigator and has published over 270 peer reviewed publications (https://iris.ucl.ac.uk/iris/browse/profile?upi=STAYL70).

His academic expertise aligns around translation of imaging technology into patient care and has particular experience in Gastrointestinal and Oncological imaging. He collaborates widely across institutions and disciplines including academic clinicians and surgeons, medical physics, computationalists, academic statisticians and health economists.

He has received many awards and honours including one of the highly prestigious and competitive 5-year HEFCE senior lecturer posts, appointment as Royal College of Radiologists Roentgen Professor, British Institute of Radiology Hounsfield prize, and was recipient of the inaugural Royal College of Radiologist (RCR) Research fellowship.
