About Mr Alex Leo
Mr Alex Leo is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at OneWelbeck Digestive Health. He is NHS based with a substantive position at Northwick Park Hospital and currently collaborates and gives contribution to the Pelvic Floor Unit at St Mark’s Hospital. He has a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopy (key-hole), proctology and benign colorectal conditions. He also has interest in ventral and groin hernias and he performs routinely complex abdominal wall reconstructions.
He is one of the few pelvic floor surgeons in the UK, who performs Sacral Nerve Stimulator (SNS) and injection of bulking agents, for patients suffering from faecal incontinence and other complex pelvic floor conditions. In order to facilitate complex case discussions and to increase patient safety, he contributes regularly to Pelvic Floor MDT meetings.
Mr Leo has published around 50 peer reviewed papers on pelvic floor and colorectal disorders. He has presented widely on these subjects at national and international meetings.
Mr Alex Leo graduated at University of Perugia, Italy in 2008. In 2015 he completed training in General and Colorectal Surgery and gained a diploma with honours and an MD in General Surgery at University of Udine, Italy.
He became a Specialist Registrar at St Mark’s from 2015 to 2018 and completed a Fellowship in Pelvic Floor diseases at the Royal London Hospital. In 2020 he achieved a MD at the Imperial College London.
