Why you might need?

A hysteroscopic fibroid resection is procedure used to remove fibroids from inside the womb (submucosal fibroids). Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus). During this procedure, a thin telescope (hysteroscope) and small surgical instruments are used to remove the fibroids.

See our page on Hysteroscopy for more on this.

Treatment Info

During the procedure the hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and into the womb through the entrance to the womb (cervix). No incisions are needed at this stage of the procedure. To ensure that as much fibroid tissue is removed, as possible, a small number of insertions are made. A hysteroscopy with resection of fibroid will be carried out under local anaesthetic may be used instead. This procedure is suitable for women who want to have children in the future.

Treatment Recovery

This procedure can usually be done in a day, meaning you will be free to recover in the comfort of your own home.

There may also be a small amount of vaginal bleeding after the procedure, but this is normal and should stop within a few weeks. After the procedure you may experience stomach cramps, but they should only last a few hours.
