What is the Welbeck audiology assessment package, and who is it for?

Our audiology screening package is suitable for patients looking to check their hearing quality and ear health.

As well as being a useful tool in monitoring existing issues, our audiology assessment package can help identify changes in your ear health or any reduction in hearing quality, and give an indication as to whether you would benefit from having hearing aids fitted.

Symptoms that may prompt you to seek an audiology assessment include:

  • ringing in your ears (tinnitus)

  • reduced hearing

  • difficulty following speech

Please note that our audiology screening package is not suitable if you’re experiencing symptoms of ear infection (itchiness, irritation, discharge or blood), balance issues or vertigo.

What’s included in the audiology screening package?

Our audiology screening package includes an initial consultation with one of our audiologists who will perform pure tone audiometry (PTA), tympanometry, speech audiometry, and any further audiological assessments and ear wax removal if required. You can read more about these tests here.

During this appointment, your audiologist will also:

  • discuss any hearing difficulties you have and your lifestyle

  • explain the different types of hearing aids available

  • recommend the most suitable options

  • take ear impressions if custom hearing aids are chosen

  • fit trial hearing aids if available/suitable

The types of hearing aids available at Welbeck are:

  • behind-the-ear (BTE)

  • receiver-in-canal/receiver-in-the-ear (RIC/RITE)

  • in-the-ear (ITE)

  • in-the-canal (ITC)/completely-in-the-canal (CIC)

  • CROS/BiCROS hearing aids

  • bone conduction hearing aids

From start to finish, your audiology screening will take approximately 45 minutes. If further investigations or treatments are required, your audiologist will talk you through your options and ensure you understand the next steps before you leave the clinic.

Preparing for an audiology assessment

The tests and procedures included in our audiology screening package are non-invasive and painless. There is no preparation required.

Recovering from an audiology assessment

There is no recovery time needed after an assessment, so you can return to your normal daily routine straight away.

Depending on the results of your assessment, your consultant will advise on the best treatment plan for you, which may include the introduction of a hearing aid or surgical intervention. At Welbeck, eligible patients can benefit from a 3-month hearing aid trial, allowing you to experience the devices firsthand before making a commitment.

If you require hearing aids, our service includes:

  • initial follow-up appointments to fine-tune settings and address any concerns

  • annual hearing reviews to monitor any changes and adjust your aids accordingly

  • access to repairs and replacement parts when needed

  • advice on cleaning and care, ensuring hearing aids continue to perform as they did when they were first fitted
