Betti's Story Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Betti visited Welbeck for a routine mole check, and during the consultation, a basal cell carcinoma was identified on her forehead — something she hadn’t noticed herself. Discover how Mohs Micrographic Surgery helped give her peace of mind, and why she now confidently recommends the team at Welbeck.

Why did you visit Welbeck?

I came in for a routine 'mole check' and saw Dr Bryan McDonald. He checked all of my existing moles and found a BCC, which I was not aware of, on my forehead.

That first visit was really thorough. He looked at everything carefully and explained what he was seeing in a calm, reassuring way.

What were your first impressions?

I felt relaxed and assured. The team is lovely and very reassuring.

I was incredibly nervous the day of my Mohs surgery, but the team made me feel at ease. They were calm, kind, and explained everything clearly — it really helped reduce my anxiety.

What was your treatment journey like?

After Dr McDonald found the BCC, he recommended a biopsy, which I came back for shortly afterwards. It involved a couple of stitches, and I returned a week later to have them removed.

When the results confirmed the BCC, I had another appointment to discuss treatment options. That’s when I met with Dr Seaton. He confirmed I was suitable for Mohs surgery and explained the process in detail.

In the lead-up to surgery, I had some back and forth with the team because I was feeling nervous and wanted to fully understand my options. They were incredibly thorough and patient, and after careful consideration, we agreed Mohs was the most appropriate choice.

The surgery took place over the course of about half a day, and after that I had several follow-up appointments to check how I was healing

What stood out about your experience?

During the biopsy, I nearly fainted — and the nursing staff were exceptionally kind and patient.

When I returned to have the stitches removed, a different nurse — who already knew what had happened previously — took extra care to ensure I was comfortable and at ease. That kind of attention to detail really meant a lot.

Both doctors were also incredibly patient and caring when I was feeling apprehensive about surgery. I felt supported the entire time.

What was recovery like?

The recovery process was minimal and just as the team had described. They were very thorough in preparing me for both the procedure and the aftercare.

I felt completely comfortable reaching out with any questions, and everything went smoothly. The scar healed better than I expected.

How has this experience impacted you?

I was unaware of the BCC before my initial visit, but the surgery has given me real peace of mind knowing it has been properly treated.

Going forward, I feel confident knowing exactly where to go should any future concerns arise — with a team I trust.

Final thoughts

My experience with Welbeck Health was excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. I’ll be returning regularly for mole checks and would confidently choose Dr Seaton for any future procedures. I've already suggested that a friend undergoing BCC removal see Dr Seaton, and recommended Dr MacDonald to another friend for dermatological care. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the entire team.

The outcome — my scar — is significantly better than I expected.
