Mr David Goodier (MB BS FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Orth)), qualified from the Royal London Hospital, In 1985. As the home of the first medically staffed helicopter emergency service in the UK, Mr Goodier spent 15 years of his career working mostly with severely injured patients. Today, The Royal London Hospital remains the busiest centre for polytrauma in the UK.
This unique wealth of experience led to his expertise in managing problem fractures, including complex fracture patterns, non-unions, multiple injuries and infected fractures.
During his training, Mr Goodier took up posts at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, St Georges Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Colchester, Croydon and Newham, in additional to three month post to a trauma centre in Germany.
Following his training, he was appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at The Royal London Hospital, in 1996.
While at The Royal London Hopistal, Mr Goodier’s reputation in complex trauma saw him receive referrals from all over the UK, for patients whose cases were deemed too complex to be dealt with elsewhere, or who had undergone surgeries that had ‘gone wrong’.
This lead to him developing techniques in limb salvage surgery, and then travelling to the Ilizarov Institute in Siberia, twice, to review the techniques being utilised there.
Mr Goodier is advanced trauma life support instructor and actively involved in lecturing, including on national and international trauma courses and the Annual BLRS deformity correction course. He also teaches regularly on llizarov techniques and ATLS courses.
