A seamless, stress-free experience

When we came together to create the Digestive Health Centre, we started with a single question: “How good can we make the patient experience?” Everything we have done since has been guided by that thought.

We asked team members, external colleagues and former patients what they didn’t like about their experiences elsewhere. And we used their answers to create a seamless set-up that puts patients first. Take a walk through our patient journey to see what we mean.

Before you come in

We know that being informed will help you feel relaxed. So we’ve created the OneWelbeck patient app, which will fill you in on what to expect, and make it easy for you to share key information with us.

  • Fill in all forms at home, online, giving you one less thing to worry about on the day.
  • Watch a video of your surgeon walking you through your procedure.
  • Find out more about our sedation options, so you can make the right choice for you.
  • Get reminders about things like what to bring, or when to take the bowel prep.

One of our nurses will also call to check how you’re doing a few days before your appointment. Our aim is to make sure that you feel as comfortable as possible before your visit.

When you arrive

We’ve designed our greeting area to be a calm, airy space, to help minimise any stress you might be feeling. We also stagger our appointments carefully, so it never feels crowded.

Getting ready

Once we’ve checked you in, we’ll take you to your private pod to relax and get ready. You’ll find everything you need, including your own en-suite loo. Your doctor will come and chat to you about what to expect, and will give you a personal, portable monitor to keep an eye on your progress. When it’s time to go, one of our nurses will escort you along the hall to the procedure room.

During your procedure

As our partner doctors have been involved in the design of the procedure rooms, they’re the ideal clinical environment. From the team’s workspace to the equipment they work with, everything has been planned with patients in mind. And because our teams work together every day, there’s no need for introductions or explanations; they can just focus on doing an excellent job.

After your procedure

Once the procedure is over, we’ll bring you back to your pod to rest (if you choose to be sedated with propofol, the recovery time should be less than an hour). Your surgeon will pop in to give you feedback on how the procedure went, and explain what happens next.

Following up

We’ll continue to monitor how you’re doing once you’re back at home, via the OneWelbeck app. You’ll be able to watch post-procedure videos which explain what to expect. You can also use the app to let us know if you’re feeling any discomfort, or to check anything with us. Of course, if you would like to speak to one of the team, you can call at any time.
