About Professor Toby Richards

Professor Richards is a vascular surgeon qualified in both the UK and Australia. He was one of the first vascular and endovascular surgeons able to undertake the full range of open and interventional / endovascular procedures. As such he can advise a holistic and informed advice with a full range of options for patients. Professor Richards has led several international clinical trials advancing vascular surgery and performed several ‘world firsts’ pioneering advances in vascular surgery. He has been led vascular surgeon for the UCLH Hyper Acute Stroke Unit he specialised in urgent carotid interventions and ranked in the UK top 5 on the National Vascular Registry. Having performed over 1000 angioplasties and stents he has particular interest complex venous disease and DVT management, both acute DVT clot removal and stenting for chronic venous obstruction, as well as pelvic venous disease in women.


He was professor of Vascular Surgery at University College London and Consultant Vascular Surgeon at UCLH from 2008-2018 before becoming the Michael-Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery in Perth, Australia. Also Honorary Professor of Anaesthesia at Monash University and Honorary Professor at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, UCL. His is internationally recognised and a regular speaker at major meetings. He has lead over $20M research funding, 45 research grants with > 20 postgraduate students. Overall 250 manuscripts i10 index 156, H-index 60, SciVal 2.34: >15,000 citations, with >35,000 downloads. Professor Richards is pleased to offer a full range of services to patients with both arterial and venous disease to an international standard with cutting edge technologies and treatments
