Prof Saidi (Sam) Mohiddin is a cardiologist with expertise in the clinical management of heart muscle disorders, and in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The heart muscle diseases he manages include inherited (cardiomyopathy) and inflammatory (myocarditis) disorders.

About Professor Saidi Mohiddin

Professor Sam Mohiddin trained in Edinburgh, in the USA at the National Institutes of Health, and in London. Sam was first appointed as a consultant cardiologist in 2010 and is also an Honorary Professor at the Barts Heart Centre. He was lead author of the UK national training curriculum for inherited cardiac conditions and has an active role in sub-specialty education. Sam led the clinical service at Barts Heart Centre for inherited cardiovascular conditions between 2015-2020.

Prof Mohiddin specialises in consulting conditions related to inherited illnesses that affect the heart muscles, namely cardiomyopathies such as:

  • Arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy (AVC)
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)
  • Myocarditis

Sam is also an expert in conducting cardiac MRIs.

Research Highlights

His MD RES research was entitled ‘Genetic and Clinical Investigations in the Familial Cardiomyopathies’, and he was awarded the 2002 American Heart Association's Young Investigator Award for his research. Current research interests include inflammatory (myocarditis) and inherited (cardiomyopathies) heart muscle diseases, and the use of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Cardiac MRI) in the assessment of these conditions. Prof Mohiddin has published over 90 original scientific or review articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.
