About Mr Valerio Celentano

Mr Valerio Celentano is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at OneWelbeck Digestive Health and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. Mr Celentano is the Clinical Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease surgery and Lead for the Ileoanal pouch (J-pouch) surgery service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has a specialist interest in surgical treatment of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis and a subspecialty interest in Ileoanal Pouch surgery, colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease and recurrent Crohn’s disease. His clinical interests include general surgery, haemorrhoids and anal fistula surgery, benign anorectal conditions, and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Mr Celentano has a strong interest in research and is actively involved in medical education and surgical training. He has published more than 80 indexed manuscripts on his expertise including IDB, quality of life following colorectal surgery, surgical training and nerve sparing techniques to preserve sexual and urinary function.

Mr Valerio Celentano completed his general surgery training in Naples, Italy. He then undertook colorectal surgery fellowships in nationally recognized LAPCO training units in the UK to gain expertise in minimally invasive surgery. He is trained in performing advanced robotic surgery procedures.

Following this, he became one of the youngest surgeons to pass the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship examinations at the age of 31 and continued his training both nationally and internationally.
