Overview

Mr Martin Klinke is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in sports-related problems, like Achilles tendon and ligament problems around the foot and ankle. In particular, he specialises in ankle joint replacements, sports injuries and forefoot corrections.

About Mr Martin Klinke

With a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine and a qualification in Sports and Exercise Medicine, naturally Mr Klinke has a special interest in sports-related problems, like Achilles tendon and ligament problems around the foot and ankle. In particular, he specialises in ankle joint replacements, sports injuries and forefoot corrections.

He is regularly invited to lecture nationally and internationally and also travels overseas to operate on patients with complex and rare foot and ankle conditions.

Mr Klinke is known for his outstanding patient care – always ensuring to have enough time for his patients to explain their diagnosis and their treatment options.

Mr Martin Klinke (MD DR) graduated from medical school in Frankfurt, before gaining his master’s degree in sports medicine from the University of Nice, in 1992, and his qualification in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 1999.

In 2000, he completed his post-graduate orthopaedic training in a number of major teaching hospitals in Germany and Paris; focussing his thesis on gait analysis and foot pathologies.

While training, Mr Klinke realised that there was a lack of interest in foot and ankle pathologies amongst orthopaedic surgeons, so he decided to travel to the most renown specialists, focusing his fellowships purely on foot and ankle conditions.

Hence, his next stop was a specialised foot and ankle fellowship at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London.

In 2001, he then embarked on a year-long training post in Switzerland, with Professor Hinterman, a worldwide specialist in ankle pathologies and total ankle joint replacement.

In 2002, Martin was appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals. He then joined The London Foot and Ankle Centre, in 2003, and has been based in full-time private practice, since 2007.

His specialist experience and use of the latest techniques has led to him being considered one of the leading foot and ankle surgeons in London.

“As I have three young children with whom I am together as much as possible, there is not much time left for other activities but I still enjoy sports activities. I cycle to work regularly and weather permitting also on the weekend. I very much enjoy cycling on holidays. I try to go to the gym and love going to the Dolomites for skiing holidays.”

“I joined Welbeck Health as it provides state-of-the-art facilities and allows me best to focus on patient’s wellbeing.”
