Miss Irumee Pai is a consultant otologist and hearing implant surgeon at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London. She specialises specifically in ear conditions, including hearing loss, external and middle ear problems, Meniere's disease, vertigo/dizziness and tinnitus.

About Miss Irumee Pai

Miss Irumee Pai is a consultant ENT surgeon at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London. She specialises specifically in ear conditions and her surgical expertise includes cochlear implantation, mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, ossiculoplasty and stapedectomy.

She qualified in 1999 from St George’s Hospital Medical School in London, with an intercalated BSc in clinical neuroscience and MBBS. During her early surgical career, she undertook an additional MSc degree in surgical science at Imperial College London. She completed specialist training at a number of centres including St George’s, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and obtained a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Otolaryngology in 2013. Following two post-CCT fellowships, at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals (advanced otology and hearing implant surgery) and at Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne, Australia (otology and skull base surgery), she was appointed to her current consultant post in 2014.

In her career to date, she has run a number of postgraduate training courses on cochlear implant surgery, temporal bone dissection and temporal bone imaging. She served as the Secretary (2017-18) and Vice President (2018-19) for the otology section of the Royal Society of Medicine. She lectures on the MCh surgery (otolaryngology) course at Canterbury Christ Church University and teaches on the Combined Universities Advanced Otology Surgery Course.

Miss Pai has a keen research interest especially in hearing implants and Meniere’s disease and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications as well as three book chapters. She receives regular invitations to speak at national and international conferences. She is currently studying for a part time PhD in the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences at King's College London, where she holds an adjunct senior lecturer position.
