About Dr Emily Porter
Dr Emily Porter (PhD, RD) is an HCPC-registered dietitian, specialising in managing functional gut conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or constipation and functional bloating, and other gastrointestinal conditions including Coeliac disease, Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD), Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM), and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). She is highly experienced in advising and supporting a full and modified low FODMAP diet, where appropriate, alongside results-driven strategies to improve wider aspects of metabolic and immune health by focusing on diet, lifestyle, and optimal gut health.
She began her career in academic research, earning a PhD in virology at the University of Bristol, before working on multiple projects investigating the relationships between immune responses, viral infections, and the microbiomes of the gut and respiratory system. Throughout her career, Dr Porter has shared her expertise by publishing scientific papers, contributing to books, and speaking at conferences.
Dr Porter's interest lies in the bidirectional relationships between the gut and other areas of health. From influencing metabolism and the immune system to impacting mental health, she’s fascinated by how disruptions in these areas also feed back to the gut.
Using a client-centric, results-driven dietitian, Dr Porter adopts a holistic approach, working collaboratively with clients to achieve their nutritional goals — whether related to managing a medical condition, alleviating specific symptoms, or improving overall health and wellbeing.
She works both with private patients and for an NHS trust, previously holding dietetic lead roles for the Coeliac disease and Type 2 Diabetes services, and is a member of the healthcare panel for The IBS Network.
