OneWelbeck Surgery Centre

The OneWelbeck Surgery Centre was founded by a group of leading Consultants with a goal of developing a state-of-the-art day surgery centre in Central London near the Harley Street medical area. The purpose built 7,000 square foot Centre includes 3 laminar flow theatres and 10 ensuite patient pods. The Centre performs orthopaedic, general, colorectal, breast, gynaecology, ENT, cardiac and pain management procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the operating theatre according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure, to include but not be limited to, assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments
  • Works collaboratively with healthcare team and consultants to ensure preference cards are current and accurate
  • Ensures the appropriate and safe positioning of the patient according to patient need, planned procedure and monitors throughout procedure
  • Monitors and ensures aseptic technique is maintained at all times when required
  • Coordinates and manages traffic flow through theatre while procedures are being performed
  • Supports theatre team by providing effective management of equipment and supplies throughout procedure, problem solves as needed
  • Ensures sterility and/or high level disinfection of instruments and supplies according to policy and procedure
  • Manages tissue specimens accurately according to policy and procedures
  • Administers medication(s) per consultant request and documents appropriately
  • Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during procedure
  • Documents accurately, legibly and in a timely manner following policies and procedures
  • Considers cost containment by ordering and using supplies economically and by managing efficient patient flow
  • Organises activities, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
  • Transports patients to or from the operating theatre, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Proactively participates as a team member in all aspects of the surgical process
  • Actively participates in quality assessment and performance improvement activities
  • Provides comfort and reassurance to patient & maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
  • Adheres to professional code of conduct

Qualifications and experience needed

  • Registered Operating Department Practitioners with current HCPC registration (essential)
  • A minimum of 1 year post registration experience in a theatre setting (essential)
  • Current BLS certification (essential) ILS certification (preferred)
  • Experience in providing recovery care to patients having undergone all aspects of anaesthesia, including sedation, local or general anaesthesia, and regional blocks (desirable)
  • Experience of working in pre-operative setting with responsibility for pre-operative assessment, cannulation and preparation for patients for surgery (desirable)
