Why you might need a Zoledronate Infusion?

- Have low bone density (osteoporosis)
- Are a female over 40

Zoledronate Infusion Treatment Information
Zoledronate is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion once a year. The treatment typically takes around 60 minutes, including a 15-minute IV infusion and a 15–30-minute observation period afterward. Many patients choose this as a more convenient and cost effective option, over repeat prescriptions.
- Treatment: A nurse will administer the zoledronate infusion intravenously.
- Observation: You will be monitored for any side effects during and after the infusion.
- Follow-up: You will need to follow up with a rheumatologist to discuss your treatment progress. Blood tests may be required to monitor kidney levels.
- Referral Only: This treatment is available by referral only, following a consultation with a consultant. Please note that appointments for the infusion cannot be booked directly through the calendar.
Risks of Zoledronate Infusions
While zoledronate is generally safe, there are potential risks associated with the treatment. These include:
- Low phosphate levels: Approximately 10% of patients may experience lower phosphate levels, which can be monitored with blood tests.
- Side effects: Common side effects may include nausea, general aches, headache, and allergic-type responses.
Zoledronate Infusion Treatment Aftercare
After your zoledronate infusion, you may experience some temporary side effects. It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions for aftercare. This may include:
- Rest: You may need to rest for a short period after the infusion.
- Hydration: Continue to stay hydrated.
- Follow-up: Attend your scheduled follow-up appointments with your rheumatologist, a blood test may be included here for monitoring kidney levels.
Treatment Costs
The infusion is priced at £1250, with self-pay required.
