Expert care, your choice

At Welbeck, we understand that every pregnancy is special.Whether you’re looking for reassurance in the early weeks or detailed monitoring later on, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

We offer 2 levels of care, supported by the very latest ultrasound technology in a calm, welcoming environment:

  • consultant-led scans– these appointments are carried out by our senior fetal medicine consultants. They include a detailed scan, an immediate discussion of findings, personalised advice, and a written report. This is the best option if your pregnancy is more complex, you’re expecting twins, or you’d like to speak directly with a specialist

  • sonographer-led scans
– these scans are performed by our highly trained obstetric sonographers. They provide accurate imaging and a detailed written report – perfect for routine checks and reassurance

Consultant-led scans available at Welbeck

At Welbeck, we offer the following consultant-led scans:

  • Doppler scan – a detailed assessment of blood flow

  • preterm birth screening (12 to 30 weeks)

  • placental anomaly assessment

  • fetal medicine consultation / second opinion

  • multiple pregnancy scans

    Doppler Scan

When: Usually between 22 and 36 weeks, if your pregnancy needs extra monitoring.

This specialist scan measures blood flow between you, the placenta, and your baby. It helps us understand how well the placenta is working and whether your baby is getting enough oxygen and nutrients.

    What to expect:
The scan is performed through your tummy and takes about 30 minutes. You’ll have a chance to discuss your results straight away with a consultant and receive a printed and/or emailed report.

    Preterm Birth Screening

When: Between 12 and 30 weeks for women with risk factors, or between 19 and 24 weeks for routine screening.

This test looks at the length of your cervix to estimate your risk of premature labour and birth. Women with a history of pregnancy loss (from 15 weeks of gestation), early birth (before 36 weeks of gestation), cervical surgery, or certain uterine conditions may benefit from this assessment. In these cases, we would recommend scans every 2 weeks from 12 weeks to 30 weeks.

    What to expect:
We carry out a gentle internal (transvaginal) ultrasound to measure your cervix. The scan only takes a few minutes, and we’ll show you your baby’s heartbeat for reassurance. The results are discussed immediately, and our consultants will help plan any follow-up care if needed.

    Placental Anomaly Assessment

When: At any stage of pregnancy, if there are questions about the placenta’s position, structure or function.

Sometimes, routine scans show the placenta is low-lying or looks unusual. In these cases, a more detailed assessment helps us understand whether there’s a genuine concern and how it might affect your delivery plan.

We use advanced Doppler ultrasound to look at the placenta’s position, structure, and blood flow. Conditions such as placenta praevia (where the placenta covers the cervix) or placenta accreta (where it attaches too deeply) can be identified, and your care plan adjusted accordingly.

    What to expect:
This is usually a consultant-led appointment lasting 30 to 45 minutes. Depending on your placenta’s position, we may combine a tummy and internal scan. Your consultant will discuss all findings with you straight away and provide a written (printed and/or emailed) report.

Fetal Medicine Consultation / Second Opinion

When: At any stage of pregnancy.

If you’ve been told there may be a concern with your baby, or you’d simply like a second opinion, our fetal medicine consultants can provide an in-depth assessment and clear, sensitive advice.

During the appointment, the consultant will review your previous scans and perform a detailed ultrasound. They’ll explain what the findings mean, discuss possible next steps, and coordinate with your existing healthcare team if needed.

This service can be especially helpful if you’re looking for reassurance, want to understand a previous diagnosis, or are managing a higher-risk pregnancy.

    What to expect:
Appointments usually last between 45 and 60 minutes. You’ll receive both verbal feedback during the scan and a detailed written report afterwards.
