About Ms Sarah Mills

Ms Sarah Mills is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at OneWelbeck Digestive Health, specialising in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, anal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.

She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College, London and the MDT Lead for Colorectal Cancer and Rapid Access Colorectal Cancer pathways at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

She is a JAG-accredited endoscopist with a specialist practice in interventional endoscopy and cutting-edge techniques for treating complex polyps and early rectal cancers. She sits on the Royal Marsden Partners Regional Cancer Alliance group which leads on developing strategies to improve cancer care in London.

Ms Sarah Mills BSc (Hons), BMBCh, MD(Res), FRCS (Gen Surg), graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 1998, and undertook surgical training in Oxford, Melbourne and London. Prior to taking up a consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, she undertook specialist colorectal fellowships at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia and St Mark’s Hospital, London (a specialist Colorectal Hospital with an international reputation). She was awarded her doctorate in 2005 for her work at St Mark’s Hospital, London, on the immunology of inflammatory bowel disease.

As part of her role as Trust MDT Lead for colorectal cancer and enhanced recovery protocols, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, she has developed innovative pathways and the use of virtual clinics to fast-track the investigation and treatment of suspected colorectal cancer patients.

Ms Mills also has an active interest in Global Health and regularly leads and teaches courses in low and middle income countries in Africa. These include the SAFE OR course, a multidisciplinary course for theatre teams of surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses focusing on using non- technical skills such as communication, leadership, situational awareness, decision making and conflict resolution to improve patient safety and outcomes.
