Overview

Dr. Elena Greco is a consultant obstetrician and Maternal and Fetal Medicine sub-specialist with over 15 years’ experience in diagnosing and managing fetal conditions and growth abnormalities. A senior clinical academic at Queen Mary University and The Royal London Hospital, she researches pregnancy complications, preterm birth, and communication. She is also a passionate educator.

About Dr Elena Greco

Dr Elena Greco is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist specialising in Maternal and Fetal medicine. Her area of expertise includes first- and second- trimester screening, counselling and management of fetal structural and genetic conditions, screening and management of preterm birth, congenital infections, growth anomalies, multiple pregnancies, placenta accreta spectrum disorders. She is also highly skilled in invasive and non-invasive testing for chromosomal and genetic conditions.
Dr Greco qualified in 2003 from the University of Naples Federico II. She was awarded the Diploma in Fetal Medicine by The Fetal Medicine Foundation in 2011, and completed a PhD in early screening of preterm birth in 2012. In 2016, she completed her sub-speciality training in maternal and foetal medicine at Imperial College London.
Dr Greco is a senior clinical academic, working between Queen Mary University of London and The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. Clinically, she is a senior member of the Fetal Medicine Centre at the Royal London Hospital, where she also leads the Preterm Birth service and oversees prenatal diagnosis for the regional Placenta Accreta Spectrum service. She also serves as the programme director for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist’s training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Barts Health.
Academically, Dr Greco is a senior lecturer whose research on screening and prevention of pregnancy complications, gestational diabetes in multiple pregnancies, and communication of unexpected news in pregnancy. She has authored numerous publications on these topics. She is also a passionate educator. Since 2021, she has been the module co-lead for Obstetrics and Gynaecology for undergraduates at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Additionally, she leads a module of the Public Health master’s degree programme, titled “A Life Course Approach to Reproductive and Sexual Health”.
