Role Information:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Radiographer to join the Minimally Invasive Procedure Suite at OneWelbeck Orthopaedics & Neurology. This dual-role position combines hands-on clinical delivery of X-ray-guided procedures with administrative and operational oversight of radiographic services within the suite. The successful candidate will lead on governance, imaging standards, and safe radiation practices while ensuring smooth collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. In addition, the post holder will support the Clinical Lead with shared departmental duties such as stock and equipment management, training compliance, and operational planning.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality fluoroscopy and X-ray imaging support for procedures including spinal injections and orthopaedic interventions
- Act as Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the Procedure Suite, ensuring compliance with IRMER and IRR17 regulations
- Maintain competency in the safe use of mobile C-arm and in the theatre environment
- Liaise with consultants, anaesthetists and theatre staff to ensure timely and accurate imaging during procedures
- Operational and Shared Departmental Duties
- Support the Clinical Lead in managing stock levels and ordering of imaging consumables and related supplies
- Coordinate maintenance, safety checks, and servicing of imaging and medical equipment
- Oversee and track statutory and mandatory training compliance for imaging staff and support wider team training coordination including ILS/BLS
- Contribute to rota planning and staffing support for imaging-related cases
Governance & Quality:
- Participate in clinical audits, incident reporting, and safety initiatives relevant to imaging and procedural activities
- Lead on radiation governance, including policy development and review of imaging-related SOPs
- Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance with PACS/RIS and IRMER guidelines
Qualifications and experience
- BSc (Hons) Radiography or DCR(R) (essential)
- HCPC registered (essential)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in theatre imaging or mobile fluoroscopy (essential)
- IRMER and RPS training (essential)
- Leadership or supervisory experience (desirable)
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary theatre or procedural setting (essential)
Key skills
- High level of clinical radiographic skill in a surgical setting
- Strong interpersonal and team communication abilities
- Knowledge of PACS/RIS systems and documentation protocols
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to manage shared responsibilities and support wider clinical operations
