Role Information:
We are looking for a Cross Sectional CT/MRI Radiographer to join our Imaging and Diagnostics team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality imaging services in accordance with IRMER 2017 and IRR 17 regulations, including CT, X-ray, Standing CT, theatre imaging, high-quality cardiac imaging, and DEXA scanning. Additionally, you will perform high-quality MRI examinations. Guided by senior radiographers and the CT and General X-ray Superintendent, you will contribute to a patient-centred service of the highest standard, ensuring safety, accuracy, and an excellent patient experience.
Key responsibilities
Perform a wide range of high-quality MRI and CT examinations, ensuring excellent patient care and adhering to professional, regulatory, and safety standards.
Maintain competence across imaging modalities including X-ray, standing CT, DEXA, and theatre imaging (cardiac, orthopaedic, pain lists, etc.).
Apply sound clinical reasoning, adjust imaging protocols when necessary, and communicate abnormal findings in line with SOPs to support accurate diagnostic reporting.
Administer contrast agents and drugs in accordance with PGDs, protocols, and departmental policies.
Ensure safe, effective use of complex imaging equipment, monitor DRLs, follow Local Rules, and carry out quality assurance testing to maintain radiation safety and equipment performance.
Work collaboratively with consultants, referrers, and the wider multidisciplinary team, clarifying imaging requests where required.
Maintain accurate records using CompuCare, and remain proficient with PACS and the Image Exchange Portal (IEP).
Support training and development of radiographic staff and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Uphold high professional standards in conduct, patient care, technical quality, and infection control.
Manage stock levels, report equipment faults promptly, and escalate operational issues to superintendents as needed.
Demonstrate flexibility across working patterns and settings.
Qualifications and experience
- BSc (Hons) Radiography
- DCR (R) or accepted international equivalent
- HCPC registration
- General radiography experience at radiographer level (Band 6/7)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in CT/MRI
- Exposure to cross-sectional imaging
- Extensive clinical and technical knowledge in CT/MRI, including specialist techniques
- Cannulation experience
Key skills
- Effective communication in a wide range of situation in writing, person or by telephone
- Ability to wear radiation protection clothing at 0.35Pb equivalent for periods of up to 4 hours
- Demonstrates professional approach, in demeanour, appearance and time keeping
- Willing to work flexible hours and participate in the out of hours duties rota
- Willingness to further current knowledge (CPD)
