About Dr Lorenzo Masci

Dr Lorenzo Masci is a Sports and Exercise Medicine physician based at OneWelbeck Orthopaedics. Sports and Exercise Medicine physicians take a holistic approach to diagnosing and managing any musculoskeletal condition.

The concept of Sports Medicine is often misunderstood. Our name implies that our services and expertise are reserved for elite athletes with sports injuries and performance-related issues. Nothing could be further from the truth. The scope of our practice includes managing virtually any musculoskeletal or medical problem associated with physical activity, irrespective of age or ability. As most musculoskeletal conditions do not require surgery, we specialise in providing a range of conservative treatment options to get you back to the activity that you feel passionate about whether competing in an ironman or simply walking to and from work to keep healthy.

“The concept of Sports Medicine is often misunderstood. The scope of our practice includes managing virtually any musculoskeletal problem irrespective of age or ability.”

In addition to managing many musculoskeletal conditions, Dr Masci has expertise in diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions such as injections.  By combining a clinical assessment with diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions in one visit, he can provide a one-stop solution for most musculoskeletal conditions. Examples of conditions for which he can provide a one-stop solution include tendon problems of the lower limb and pelvis, shoulder rotator cuff pain, tennis elbow, hip and groin pain, plantar fasciitis, and non-surgical osteoarthritis.

Dr Masci will assess your injury and provide an accurate diagnosis and management plan. He performs diagnostic ultrasound at the first consultation and can refer you immediately for other imaging in-house such as X-Ray, MRI, and CT scans. If rehabilitation is required, he can refer you seamlessly for physiotherapy, podiatry and osteopathy. He can also refer you to consultants at OneWelbeck including orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists or pain medicine consultants if clinically indicated.

He has specific expertise in diagnostic point-of-care ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections including cortisone, hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma. He has developed an on-line ultrasound-guided injection course and is recognised world-wide expert in ultrasound-guided interventions. He has a special interest in managing tendon disorders including Achilles, patellar (knee) tendon, heel spurs (plantar fasciopathy), hip and buttock tendons, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and rotator cuff (shoulder) tendons.
