Personal Biography
Dr Charlotte Manisty, MBBS, MA, MRCP, PhD, undertook her medical training at Oxford University and Imperial College, and was awarded scholarships at both institutions (including the Cheadle Award, Nuffield and Harmsworth Scholarships).
She obtained her MRCP, in 2004; and then undertook specialist postgraduate training in cardiology on the North West Thames rotation. This included fellowships in cardiac imaging and cardiac devices at Imperial College NHS Trust.
During this period she gained formal accreditation in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac devices.
Dr Manisty was awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship, in 2005, for research into cardiopulmonary physiology in heart failure, for which she received a PhD in 2009 from University of London.
Her research investigated the mechanisms behind abnormal breathing patterns (sleep apnoea) in heart failure, which led to collaborations with engineers to devise and construct two novel potential treatments for the disorder.
Following her PhD, she was received a prestigious National Institute of Health research clinical lecturership, and conducted research into ways to improve the accuracy of echocardiography and myocardial perfusion cardiac MRI scanning.
Dr. Manisty was appointed as consultant cardiologist at the Barts Heart Centre and University College London Hospital, in June 2014. She is academic lead for heart failure within the two trusts, and clinical lead for cardio-oncology.
She is currently a senior lecturer at University College London and course director for the only course worldwide on MRI scanning in cardiac devices.
She has authored 60 publications and book chapters to date, and is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences.
