Dr Deepak Suri performs a range of investigations including:

Some of the symptoms and conditions he commonly investigates, and treats are:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Diagnosis and assessment of liver disease and cirrhosis
  • Abnormal liver tests
  • Dyspepsia and reflux
  • Bowel symptoms such as a change in bowel habit, diarrhoea and constipation and rectal bleeding
  • Dysphagia and globus
  • Inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease

Career Highlights

Dr Deepak Suri, BSc, FRCP, MD, is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist at the Whittington Health NHS Trust, and consultant hepatologist at University College London Hospital.

Following his graduation in 1992, Dr Suri undertook postgraduate training at a number of London hospitals, including St George’s, Guy’s, the Middlesex and the Royal Free. He is clinically trained in hepatology, having carried out research in viral hepatitis while at UCL and working as a senior registrar at Royal Free Hospital’s Liver Unit.

He trains and educates colleagues including junior doctors and nurses. He has also been a clinical and training lead for endoscopy and clinical and educational supervisor to junior doctors at the Whittington Health NHS Trust.

Research highlights

Dr Suri has contributed to a number of published medical and conference papers in his chosen field. He has submitted several abstracts to the British Society of Gastroenterology, American Association for Study of Liver Diseases and the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

I am undertaking research and service development in hepatology, including fatty liver disease, hyperferritiaemia and hepatitis b virus infection.

    For the opportunity to be part of a consultant led gastrointestinal unit that is able to offer the best gastro-intestinal care to patients.

  • What are the moments which stand out most in your career so far?

    I have enjoyed my training and time as a consultant. In particular, I have enjoyed the development of endoscopy and liver disease whereby incurable conditions such as hepatitis c are now straightforward to treat.
