If you want a quick understanding of aortic stenosis – narrowing of the outflow valve of the heart- and the treatments available, read on. This leaflet from one of the valve manufacturers is clear.
Options:
- Medical therapy- only palliative
- Balloon valvuloplasty – might help but does not last
- TAVI- increasingly seen as an alternative to surgery in patients over 70
- Open heart surgery with aortic valve replacement (sAVR)
The best choice for you will need to be made after careful assessment by the Heart Team. We have a wealth of experience in assessing and more importantly performing the procedures.
