Dr Kanaganayagam, MRCP PhD MBBS BSc, graduated from Kings College London, in 2002. He was awarded a national scholarship whilst a medical student and was invited to undertake a PhD at St Thomas’ Hospital.
During his cardiology PhD, he was nominated as a national young investigator of the year for his research in stem cell biology whilst still a medical student, and went on to publish in renowned cardiology journals.
After graduating with distinction in specialist study in 2007, he went on to take up placements at St Thomas’ Hospital and then later as an academic registrar at Imperial College London.
During his junior doctor training, he completed his MRCP examination, in 2010. He undertook placements at the Royal Brompton Hospital for cardiac imaging training and completed this training at Imperial College Healthcare.
He lectures on international courses, teaches national imaging courses aimed at junior doctors and consultants, and set up an educational programme in cardiology. He continues to contribute actively in the research arena and is the principal investigator in a number of clinical trials.
Research and Awards
He has participated in original research, written review articles and has written book chapters in cardiac CT, echocardiography and cardiac MRI and is doing ongoing research in cardiac MRI, cardiomyopathy and valve disease.
